The mandatory two-day liquor ban began on Friday in Carmona town, Cavite province, in time for a plebiscite for its cityhood bid on Saturday.

Law enforcers have put up security checkpoints in strategic parts of the locality for the enforcement of the gun ban that will end on July 15.

In a statement, the local government urged all residents to vote in the plebiscite for the cityhood of Carmona. On Feb. 23, President Marcos signed Republic Act No. 119381, mandating the town’s cityhood.A plebiscite among Carmona residents is all that is left for the law to take effect. Carmona, classified as a first-class municipality, has 14 barangays with a population of 106,256, as of the 2020 census.

Once ratified in a plebiscite, Carmona will become the eighth city in Cavite, joining Bacoor, Dasmariñas, General Trias, Imus, Tagaytay, Trece Martires and Cavite.
