We are asking you please help the Comelec,” Comelec chairperson George Garcia said. “We cannot even go to the gasoline station and ask the station manager talaga bang nagpagasolina ang politikong ito? Ilang beses nagpagasolina at ilan sasakyan ginagamit niya? We do not have the means to do that. We can only do that the citizen’s arm and the entire citizens group will be helping,” he added.
The Commission on Elections on Thursday sought the help of civil society groups in checking the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures of candidates amid the limited personnel and resources of the poll body.
“Kami po ay nakikiusap na sana po matulungan ng civil society ang Comelec with 48,000 or 50,000 SOCE. We are asking you please help the Comelec,” he said. Garcia said they also need to crossmatch the submitted SOCE of the individual candidates with those provided by political parties. “We cannot even go to the gasoline station and ask the station manager talaga bang nagpagasolina ang politikong ito?
