LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Will it be a fight between Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil and incumbent Rep. Mark Cojuangco for the congressional race in the second district of Pangasinan in the May 2025 midterm elections?
This question emerged on Independence Day after Bataoil announced to a surprised audience composed of Lingayen town employees that this year could be his last Independence Day program as mayor.'This could be my last Independence Day as your mayor,' said Bataoil , who is in his second term as chief executive of Lingayen.Under the law, mayors can only serve for three consecutive three-year terms.
He, meanwhile, called on his constituents to continue doing good for the town, such as taking care of the environment, their villages, and the people.Pangasinan's second district is composed of this capital town, Binmaley, Bugallon, Aguilar, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Basista, and Labrador. Cojuangco, who transferred his residence from Sison town to Lingayen before the May 2022 elections, defeated former representative Jumel Anthony Espino, son of former Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr.
