COA asked to audit oval, bridge projects

THE Cebu City Council wants the rehabilitation of the track oval at the Cebu City Sports Center and the construction of the bridge in Barangay Pulangbato audited.Both projects were implemented by the same contractor, SBD Builders.Councilor Rey Gealon passed two resolutions during the council’s regular session on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, seeking assistance from the Commission on Audit . In a third resolution, he requested COA to provide advice on how to proceed with the two projects.

However, the City closed the track oval to the public last Nov. 13 to fix the damages. Repairs are expected to be completed before the Sinulog festival on the third week of January, which will be held at the CCSC.The City has withheld payment of SBD Builders’ P52 million contract until repairs are completed.Meanwhile, Gealon urged COA to investigate SBD Builders’ civil works on the reinforced deck girder project from Sitio Candarong to Tanay Road in Barangay Pulangbato.
