ICYMI: Co-op set to redevelop North Hill site in partnership with Royop yyc yycbiz
“For a while now, Calgary Co-op has been looking at that site as one that is definitely in a neighbourhood that has been turning over, and is a site that has an opportunity to be the first one to breathe more life into 16th Avenue,” said Ken Keelor, CEO of Calgary Co-op.
The original store will stay open for the duration of the first phase of construction, which will take place on the west side of the 4.25-acre site off 16th Avenue N.E. Once complete — expected in 2025 — operations will move into the new building and the second phase of retail construction will commence where the original store stands now. Construction on the second phase is expected to run into 2026.
Details are still being finalized on the residential units, but they will likely be a mix of one- and two- bedroom units, making up five storeys above the retail level. Royop has been involved in a number of other similar mixed-use projects in the city, including The Shops of Carrington Green, which is anchored by a No Frills and includes 182 residential units called the Jovie in the north end. It is set to open this winter.
