The southwest monsoon or “habagat” may continue to bring scattered rain showers across Metro Manila and parts of Central and Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
Cloudy skies with scattered light to heavy rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan, and Cuyo Islands. PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas. According to weather specialist Grace Castañeda, the low pressure area at 1,015 kilometers east of Central Luzon still has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 to 48 hours. The rest of the country will continue to have “generally fair weather” due to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms.
However, the public is advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
