A schooner sunk by post-tropical storm Fiona after the 48-year-old wooden sailboat’s mooring dragged in St. Margarets Bay was floated again this week by a crew of mariners eager to help.

“It was a bit more than an individual could deal with to get it raised, so he gave me a shout and I worked with a couple of other teams to get her out of the water and prepped for her next chapter.” They used the shipyard’s rescue boat, as well as a barge and crane from Eagle Beach to raise the schooner.

The boat “wasn’t smashed to pieces,” Wilson said. “Some of the planks had been separated and some of the planks had pulled off the boat.”“As the tide was going up, it was going in through the companionway and the other hatches on the boat,” Wilson said of the ocean. The schooner Peer's Fancy sank in Long Cove, St. Margarets Bay, when its mooring dragged during Fiona. - Facebook

“It was certainly emotional for him, but when he saw it out of the water it was a huge relief for him; it’s a member of the family,” Boutilier said in an interview Thursday while he was sailing past Cape Cod to deliver another boat to the U.S. “Every single boat was off the docks, and we had all but three hauled out and put away at our facility. Many people wanted their vessels indoors out of the weather so they didn’t have to think of it at all.”Peer’s Fancy is now at Shining Waters, but she won’t be for long. The schooner’s electronics were wrecked by the water, but the diesel engine should survive.
