Classes in several Batangas towns suspended as kids fall ill

The DOH has started an epidemiological investigation to establish the source of the hand, foot and mouth disease outbreak in San Pascual, Batangas, which affected more than 100 residents, most of them children. | dtmallarijrINQ /PDI

The DOH-Center for Health Development in Calabarzon reported that from Sept. 26 to Oct. 16, San Pascual logged 105 cases “with clinical symptoms of HFMD.”

Most of the cases are children between 1 and 16 years old and are predominantly male.The San Pascual Rural Health Unit , in its latest report on Tuesday afternoon, clarified that it had yet to record any confirmed HFMD cases in the town. The students are residents of barangays Pook ng Kapitan, Sambat, Natunuan North, Natunuan South, Poblacion, Pook ni Banal, San Antonio, Resplandor, Antipolo, Mataas na Lupa, Palsahingin, Alalum, Sto. Niño, Bayanan and Banaba.

On Wednesday afternoon, Alitagtag Mayor Edilberto Ponggos also suspended classes at Alitagtag Central School and Muzon Elementary School from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21 to curb the spread of HFMD.
