Classes at all levels, in public and private schools, in the island town of Polillo in Quezon province are suspended on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as a precautionary measure for the incoming tropical depression MaymayPH. | dtmallarijrINQ /PDI

The 5 p.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in areas along Maymay’s path, including the towns of General Nakar and Infanta, and the Polillo group of islands in the northern part of Quezon.

Polillo and two other municipalities — Panukulan and Burdeos — are located on Polillo Island off Lamon Bay facing the Pacific Ocean. The two other towns and the island municipalities of Jomalig and Patnanungan have yet to cancel classes in their respective localities. During the onslaught of supertyphoon “Karding” last month, the five island towns suffered widespread devastation.
