Santa has brought Aussies sunshine for Christmas, with 'sensational' weather forecast almost right across the board. 9News

"It's looking sensational for large parts of Australia," meteorologist Dean Narramore from the Bureau of Meteorology said.

The cool start to summer has officially come to an end with temperatures around the country heating up just in time for the holiday period. While it's likely to be a picturesque summer's day across the southeast, there are thunderstorms and rain forecast across the top end, in parts of Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. In good news for Sydney, temperatures are looking perfect for a Christmas barbecue.

It will be mostly sunny, Narramore said, but there may be a few clouds and a possible storm in the far west suburbs. Stinking hot temperatures might not hit the south east of Australia but the west and top end will see traditional Christmas temperatures."Really the whole area will stay warm and sunny all day," Narramore said. The temperature is set to hit 31C, a warm high for the capital, and a low of 11C.The forecast for Melbourne has been updated, with the initial fears of cool temperatures and rain easing.
