The girl had been experiencing difficulties at home and approached Dawson to talk about it because he had been ‘paying particular attention to her’ in his class, the court heard.

Convicted wife killer Chris Dawson does not deny pursuing a sexual relationship with an underage girl who was a pupil at his Northern Beaches high school but maintains the teenager was not aged 16 or in his class when the relationship became physical, a court has been told.

Blizard said the girl started to confide in Dawson regularly and he invited her to help out at a sports carnival – where there was physical contact between the pair for the first time. “It is alleged that at those classes, one brother would instruct the class whilst the other was behind closed doors with one of the girls,” Blizard said.

She said she remembered spending time with Dawson at Lindfield while his brother taught classes, then returning to the class when it was his turn to teach. She said by August or September 1980 she started babysitting for Dawson every weekend, would sleep over in a guest room, and would see him at a pub on Friday nights in addition to the Lindfield classes.
