THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has called on all relevant government and law enforcement agencies to search for an environmental defender who was reported missing after she had been freed from Lucena City District Jail (LCDJ).
THE Commission on Human Rights has called on all relevant government and law enforcement agencies to search for an environmental defender who was reported missing after she had been freed from Lucena City District Jail .Taking cognizance of the reported disappearance of Rowena 'Owen' Dasig from Calabarzon, the CHR said the charges against Dasig had been recently dismissed by the Gumaca Regional Trial Court Branch 172 on Aug. 13, 2024.
'As the country's independent national human rights institution, we are closely monitoring and investigating this matter to ascertain her whereabouts and safety. We also call upon all relevant government and law enforcement agencies to immediately conduct their efforts within their respective mandates,' the CHR said.It also reiterated the need for stricter implementation of Republic Act 10535, or the Anti-Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance Act.
