In a statement, the CHR expressed its support to the media community and denounced the “violent crime.” "The CHR is already conducting a motu proprio investigation into the brazen killing of veteran broadcaster Percival 'Percy Lapid' Mabasa in Las Piñas City on Monday night, 3 October 2022," it said. The CHR noted that Lapid is "known to have critical views on the policies and some personalities under the Duterte and Marcos Jr. administrations."while on his way home in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City on Monday evening.On Tuesday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said an in-depth investigation has started through a Special Investigation Task Force formed by the Las Piñas City Police hours after the incident.
"The DILG and PNP commit to deliver justice to the family of Lapid and bring the suspects behind bars to answer for their crime," DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. said in a statement., adding that it is expecting report from investigating authorities in seven days. —
