The Commission on Human Rights has lauded the Supreme Court for denouncing and warning that sanctions will be imposed on those who “incite violence through social media and other means which endanger the lives of judges and their families.”
It said the SC’s move came after former National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict Spokesperson Lorraine Marie Badoy reportedly made threats against Judge Marlo Magdoza-Malagar of the Manila Regional Trial Court, Branch 19. “As the country’s independent national human rights institution, CHR relies on the wisdom of our courts in adjudicating cases of alleged human rights violations so that perpetrators may be held to account and victims and their families receive the justice they deserve,” it said.
The CHR urged the government to do its part by conducting prompt and effective investigations on threats and offenses made against the legal profession and members of the judiciary.
