The Philippine Navy on Tuesday said the number of Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea reached another record-high for this year at 251.From September 17 to 23, the Philippine Navy spotted 204 Chinese maritime militia vessels, 28 China Coast Guard ships, 16 People's Liberation Army Navy warships, and three research vessels.

Recently, BRP Teresa Magbanua of the Philippine Coast Guard was pulled out from Escoda Shoal.China claims almost the entire South China Sea , including the portion the Philippines refers to as the West Philippine Sea.The SCS is a conduit for more than $3 trillion in annual ship commerce. Aside from the Philippines, China also has overlapping claims in the area with Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei.
