China has sent 71 warplanes and seven ships towards Taiwan in the largest incursion into Taiwan's defence zone, in a protest against the United States’ defense support for the self-ruled island.

The People's Liberation Army said it had conducted the"combat readiness patrols” and “firepower strike drills" on Sunday, in response to “escalating collusion and provocation” by the United States and Taiwan.
