China rejects allegations of harassing Philippine boats in the South China Sea, stating that it is the Philippines who made provocative moves. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs defends China's actions as necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and interests.

It is the Philippines , not China , which made ' provocative moves ' in the South China Sea (SCS), Beijing said on Monday as it rejected allegations that Chinese ships were harassing Philippine boats. 'There is no such situation of China 'harassing' the Philippines ,' China 's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Mao Ning said. Mao said that 'the Philippines has frequently made provocative moves in the South China Sea, infringing on China 's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.

' 'China has taken necessary measures in accordance with law to defend its own sovereignty, rights and interests,' the official said in a press briefing in Beijing. The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines shared the transcript of Mao's interview. The statement was issued after Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo urged China to stop harassing the Philippines. 'If you would stop harassing us and perhaps performing other actions, there wouldn't be any news to report,' Manalo said
