CHINA has rebuked the Philippines for passing two legislation that defined the maritime zones limit and the archipelagic sea lanes of the Philippines. China’s Foreign Ministry summoned Philippine Ambassador to Beijing Jaime FlorCruz to express its “serious protest” and “strong condemnation” to President Marcos Jr.

The Philippine Sea in east and north of the Philippines, and the West Philippine Sea is the name used by the Philippines for parts of the area within its exclusive economic zone.

Also, the foreign affairs committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislative body, condemned the Philippines for “insisting” on passing the Maritime Zones Act “despite China’s strong opposition and solemn representations.

China pointed that the Philippines’ claim over West Philippine Sea and Panatag Shoal is not covered in the Treaty of Paris, Treaty of Washington, and 1930 Treaty Concerning the Delimitation of the Outlying Islands of the Philippines.

In passing the Maritime Zones Act, the Philippine Congress included the West Philippine Sea and the Philippine Rise as part of its maritime entitlements.
