BEIJING — China has expressed to Japan its strong dissatisfaction over what it called 'smear attacks' against Beijing during recent high-level meetings with some of Tokyo's important allies, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.In a statement, the ministry said Liu Jinsong, director-general of its Asian affairs department, conveyed solemn representations and serious concern at a Monday meeting with Akira Yokochi, deputy chief of mission at the Japan ese Embassy.
A joint statement said China's foreign policy 'seeks to reshape the international order for its own benefit at the expense of others' and that such behavior represents 'the greatest strategic challenge' in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.The US-Japan talks were followed the next day by a meeting of the foreign ministers from the so-called Quad countries: the US, Japan, India and Australia.
