KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are acquiring defensive end Frank Clark from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a first-round draft pick this year and a second-round pick in 2020.
Almost immediately after word leaked of the trade Tuesday, Clark and the Chiefs worked quickly to reach agreement on a five-year contract worth up to $105 million, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced by either team and was still pending a physical.
Seattle landed the No. 29 overall pick to go along with the No. 21 pick the Seahawks already had. The teams are also swapping third-round picks. NFL Network first reported the trade. Clark was set to play the upcoming season in Seattle on the franchise tag that would have paid him $17.1 million. Instead, he’s in line for one of the biggest paydays for a defensive end.
The trade ended weeks of speculation about Clark’s future after he was unable to come to terms on a deal with Seattle. Clark is coming off the best season of his career with 13 sacks.
