The Vancouver Giants continued their playoff roll with a convincing opening-game win in their Western Conference final series against the Spokane Chief on Friday.

Vancouver got one goal and two assists from Owen Hardy, one goal and one helper from Dawson Holt and a 30-save effort from David Tendeck and beat the Spokane Chiefs 4-1 in the opener of the best-of-seven Western Conference final before a sell-out crowd of 4,917 at the Langley Events Centre.Vancouver won the Western Conference regular season pennant and beat the wild card Seattle Thunderbirds in six games in the first round and then the No. 5 seeded Victoria Royals in the second.

Tendeck was making his second straight start. He and Trent Miner had alternated starts for Vancouver after Miner played the first two games against Seattle and Tendeck played the second two.Giants coach Michael Dyck tried to have the line of Holt, Hardy and Jared Dmytriw matched up against the Spokane forward units featuring Jaret Anderson-Dolan. Anderson-Dolan had a variety of linemates.

Before being re-assigned to Spokane, Anderson-Dolan, 19, played five games earlier this season with the Los Angeles Kings, the team that picked him in the second of the 2017 NHL Draft. He also played with Team Canada at the world juniors in Vancouver. Spokane forward Luc Smith had to be helped off the ice and went directly to the dressing room with an apparent ankle injury at the 2:04 mark of the first period. He did not return. Smith, one of Spokane’s three 20 year olds, had 28 goals in 64 regular season games, split between the Chiefs and the Kamloops Blazers. He had four goals and one assists Spokane’s first two rounds this spring.Sewen@postmedia.
