SPOKANE — The Vancouver Giants have a 2-1 lead on the Spokane Chiefs in the best-of-seven Western Conference finals, but the Chiefs hold a 2-1 edge in bad-bounce goals in this series.
Spokane had taken a 2-1 lead at 10:51 of the third period when Luke Toporowski converted a Riley Woods feed on an odd-man rush. Vancouver tied the score at 1-1 at the 2:22 mark of the third period when Justin Sourdif rifled one past Bailey Brkin.Heavy HitsThe Chiefs, who were already missing over-age forward Luc Smith to an undisclosed injury going into the game, had defenceman Filip Kral go directly to the dressing room midway through the first period after a heavy shoulder-to-shoulder check by Vancouver winger Justin Sourdif.
That’s to offer up some idea of what Spokane is going through missing Kral and Smith, who seemed to turn his ankle in a scrum along the boards in the early going of Game 1 of this series and has not played since. Tendeck was named CHL goaltender of the week for the period ending Sunday for his 2-0 record, 1.50 goals against average .947 save percentage during that seven-day stretch.
