It’s the most powerful non-sporting Civic to date
It has been a couple of months since we first saw photos of the 2025 Honda Civic. At the time, a few details were revealed, but we had yet to get any info about other specifications.
For those who were waiting, there’s no need to wonder anymore. Recently, the facelifted Civic sedan and hatchback had begun deliveries in North America. With it comes the reveal of more details about the hybrid version.Hyundais hybrids are here: Electrified Santa Fe, Tucson land in PHJust the hybrid, you ask? Well, that’s because the 1.5-liter turbo variant has been discontinued in the US. The hybrid now takes the place of that engine, at least for that market.
This time around, we finally have numbers for the engine. But first, a quick recap of the hardware that powers the Civic Hybrid. It’s an identical arrangement seen in the CR-V, the e:HEV. It pairs a 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder engine with traction motor and generator motor.Like in the CR-V, the 2.0-liter engine makes 146hp and 183Nm of torque on its own. The electric motors then pack 181hp and 335Nm of torque and shifts with an e-CVT.
With numbers like that, the Civic Hybrid is effectively the most powerful non-sporting Civic to date. Remember when we were happy with 140hp from these cars? Honda hasn’t provided acceleration figures yet, but given that it carries far less weight than the CR-V, we reckon the electrified Civic can hit 100kph in the low 7 second range.What Honda does have are claimed fuel economy figures. Per the Environmental Protection Agency , the Honda Civic Hybrid can do 21.
Honda Sensing is, of course, standard. But this time around, there have been improvements made to the advanced driver assist system. The major highlight is increased system visibility for motorcycles and bicycles for the Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection.The US market can get the Civic in four flavors. It starts with the LX and followed by the Sport. These variants are powered by the 2.0-liter engine.
