TEL AVIV, Israel — United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday the time was now to reach a ceasefire agreement that would return hostages held by Hamas and alleviate the suffering of Palestinians after 10 months of fighting in the devastated Gaza Strip.
Blinken's ninth urgent mission to the Middle East since the conflict began in early October came days after mediators, including the US, expressed renewed optimism that a deal was near. But Hamas has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the latest proposal, and Israel has said there were areas it was unwilling to compromise.
