Treasurer Jim Chalmers isn’t ruling out additional support for Victoria in next month’s federal budgetis tipped to grow from $115 billion to more than $165 billion in the next few years.

Asked on Tuesday whether he was willing to help bail out the Andrews government, the federal treasurer said all budgets are under pressure and the Commonwealth will do what it can to assist.

The treasurer added that a number of funding agreements between the states and territories are up for renegotiation over the next 12 months or so. “We will work with the Labor states and the [Liberal] government of Tasmania to make sure that we’re doing what we can.”
