Lacson and Colleges Foundation-Bacolod City and Francois Marie Magpily of De La Salle University topped the individual standard chess competition of the 2024 Reserve Officers Training Corps Games National Championships held at Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite. Cena defeated Adam Verk Moncal Ebro in the final round to finish with 5.5 points and win the men's gold medal over Navy teammate Ezekiel Marino of Manuel S.
Lyra Mae Metrillo of Philippine State College of Aeronautics-FAB campus and Christtenne Fagtanac of Philippine State College of Aeronautics, meanwhile, placed second and third, respectively, to also give Air Force the women's team championship.'Playing chess in the ROTC Games has been an incredible experience. It's not just about winning; it's about honing our strategic thinking and learning from every move, whether we win or lose,' said Magpily.
