A Cebu-based labor group has voiced its opposition to the recent increase in Social Security System (SSS) contributions, arguing that it will negatively impact workers' take-home pay and burden micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The group calls for the SSS to prioritize recovering unpaid contributions from delinquent employers over raising worker rates.

A CEBU-BASED labor group has criticized the recently implemented increase in Social Security System contributions, saying it could reduce an ordinary worker’s take-home pay and impose additional financial burdens on micro, small, and medium enterprises .In an interview over Facebook Messenger on Monday, Jan.

The government said the increase is part of a broader effort to enhance the agency’s financial sustainability.Paglinawan said nearly P90 billion remains uncollected from delinquent employers, adding that the SSS should prioritize recovering these unpaid contributions before increasing workers’ contribution rates.In a report by SunStar Cebu on April 20, 2024, SSS disclosed that P56 billion in contributions remained unremitted by delinquent employers in 2023.
