The data shared by City Veterinarian Alice Utlang on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, showed that 204 animals, mostly dogs, were adopted last year, up from 93 adoptions in 2023.Utlang attributed the increase to the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries' intensive adoption campaign, which includes promoting pet adoption in malls during weekends.
As of January 28, the city pound had 107 dogs ready for adoption, including 21 dogs in new cages, 56 puppies, and 11 cats.The DVMF’s impounding of stray animals is governed by Republic Act 8485 , RA 9482 , and City Ordinance 2526 . The ordinance includes provisions for a massive anti-rabies vaccination program.Impounded animals can be released for adoption or subjected to euthanasia if their owners do not claim them.
