A recent report by the U.S.-based watchdog BishopAccountability.org has revealed that at least nine priests affiliated with the Archdiocese of Cebu are among 82 priests accused of sexually abusing minors in the Philippines. The report, released on January 29, 2025, detailed allegations against Filipino priests serving both in the Philippines and abroad. BishopAccountability.

org, a leading organization monitoring abuse within the Catholic Church, maintains the largest public archive on this crisis, featuring investigative reports and survivor testimonies. The database included profiles of Filipino priests accused of abusing minors in the Philippines, those accused while serving in the U.S., and foreign clergy who served in the Philippines and face similar allegations. Despite these allegations dating back to the 2000s, no priest has ever been convicted of sexual abuse in the Philippines. Archbishop Jose Palma confirmed that three priests accused remain incardinated within the Archdiocese of Cebu and have been reintegrated into active ministry after undergoing legal and canonical processes.One priest is currently in Cebu for a renewal program while cooperating with authorities and is incardinated in another diocese. Palma stated that due process was applied to other priests who previously served the archdiocese but are no longer affiliated with it. One priest has been laicized, while another has passed away. The Archdiocese of Cebu acknowledges the abuse committed by priests against minors and is committed to supporting survivors and their families, ensuring they receive justice and accountability.
