A Catholic bishop in the Philippines appeals for forgiveness on behalf of an OFW accused of killing her employer's child in Kuwait, while emphasizing the importance of justice and condemning the act as a grave sin.

An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) appealed on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, for forgiveness for the overseas Filipino worker ( OFW ) accused of killing her employer's child in Kuwait . In a statement, CBCP-Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI) vice chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos said they are asking for everyone's forgiveness for the alleged actions of the Filipino domestic worker.

'We humbly ask for forgiveness from our almighty and merciful God. May He grant strength to those affected by this tragedy and sustain us with His necessary mercy and pardon,' said Santos. He also appealed to the public not to see the actions of one OFW as reflective of his/her colleagues. 'This isolated case should not taint the true face of our OFWs, who are known for their hard work, honesty, and God-fearing nature,' said Santos. The prelate said seeking for forgiveness does not mean that the OFW should be spared from the hands of justice. 'Let us remember that our faith calls us to seek justice and mercy. We must allow the rule of law to prevail, ensuring that justice is served,' said Santos. He said even God's Commandments see such an act as a grave sin that warrants justice. 'We recognize it as a grave sin and a violation of the sanctity of life,' said the bishop. Earlier, reports came out that a Filipina domestic helper had confessed to killing the Kuwaiti child by placing him inside a washing machine. The Kuwaiti police have already arrested the Filipina domestic helper and an investigation is currently underway. Santos, meanwhile, expressed condolences to the family of the alleged victim of the OFW. 'We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to the family of the child. In this time of grief, we pray for their comfort and healing,' said Santos. He also prayed for the conversion of the accused domestic worker. 'We pray for the accused, that there may be contrition and a change of heart,' said Santos
