Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has formed a team that will unmask the persons behind the alleged villification campaign launched against him and the Philippine Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) in connection with the country’s hosting of the biennial regional sports competition.
“We already have a team looking at it,” Cayetano said in a Facebook Live interview Tuesday.
He said some wrong information spread by people on social media were actually honest mistakes. They, too, will be spared from reprisal. He added that there are laws such as cyber libel that will make those behind the supposedly orchestrated disinformation campaign pay for their wrongdoing.Previously, the House official decried the fake news drive as one that was orchestrated by his and the Duterte administration’s political detractors.
On Monday, Ombudsman Samuel Martires said he has formed a seven-man panel of anti-graft probers to look into allegations of graft and anomalous spending in the country’s hosting of the regional sporting event.
