Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. on Tuesday ordered an investigation into the strip search conducted on wives of prisoners deprived of liberty (PDLs) during their visit at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr . on Tuesday ordered an investigation into the strip search conducted on wives of prisoners deprived of liberty during their visit at the New Bilibid Prison .This came after wives of PDLs filed a complaint before the Commission on Human Rights against the strip search they experienced at the NBP Maximum Security Compound on April 21.
In his report to the director general, NBP Acting Superintendent Roger Boncales recommended that strip search should be implemented to all visitors as random search and frisk search were ineffective.Citing the Bucor Operating Manual on visitor control, Boncales said that women visitors shall be searched by female corrections officers in a private area with the consent of the concerned visitor.
