“It’s really great to feel and see my career as a basketball player bloom under his mentorship since he drafted me as a rookie,” said Castro, a member of the 2008 rookie draft where Reyes made a stunning move by trading Anthony Jay Washington to San Miguel Beer to get the third overall pick before tabbing Castro.
Reyes and Castro have won five PBA titles since 2008—they’re now hoping to make it sixth together. Overall, the Tropang Giga have a 22 finals appearances and are hoping to tie Toyota’s nine PBA crowns.“He is a true mark of a leader,” Reyes said of the former Philippine Christian University point guard who averaged 16.3 points, 4.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds in six games in the semifinals. “It’s the positive leadership we built throughout the years, it’s contagious.
