MANILA, Philippines — Aldrin Castañeda expressed gratitude for having an opportunity to coach Carlos Yulo again.Castañeda was one of Yulo 's junior coaches before the Filipino gymnastics ace got coached by Munehiro Kugimiya in Japan starting in 2016. When the two parties parted ways last year due to personal differences, Castañeda was reassigned to coach 'Caloy', eventually helping the 4-foot-11 dynamo in winning two gold medals at the Paris Olympics.
'Castañeda, 51, said it felt like a daunting task to coach Yulo anew with the 24-year-old already an elite athlete before Paris with a buttload of achievements including two world titles.Yulo was a floor exercise champ in 2019 and vault titlist in 2021 -- the same events he ruled at the Paris Games to become the first Filipino Olympic double gold medalist.'I can't explain it, it seemed like a daunting task because he's a world class athlete,' Castañeda.
