Filipino top gymnast Carlos Yulo did not participate in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China to focus on his bid to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics through the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
The time has come for Yulo to vindicate that decision when he competes in the world meet on Saturday, September 30.The 4-foot-11 Yulo will see action starting at 4 p.m., needing to be one of the eight best athletes -- outside those who had already qualified to the Olympics through the team event last year -- in the individual all-around qualification phase to advance.
Otherwise, Yulo, a two-time world champion, would have to go through the other qualifiers to make it to Paris.Yulo, who snared the gold medal in floor exercise in 2019 and the vault in 2021, is one of the favorites to win in the two events as well as in parallel bars and still rings. The four-time Asian champion and nine-time Southeast Asian Games gold medal winner will also see action in the pommel horse and horizontal bars.
