Capitol bracing for 200K evacuees in case of second Kanlaon eruption

The provincial government is preparing for a possible second eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, which could affect up to 200,000 Negrenses in the surrounding localities. Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said the provincial government is bracing for a three-week evacuation period following the eruption on Monday, December 9. However, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has been warning of a potential second eruption.

Diaz also revealed that food packs, fuel, water filtration systems, sanitation kits, and arroz caldo have already been dispatched to address the needs of evacuees. “As directed by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Department of National Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, a three-week provision has been prepared by the province,” Diaz said.
