Canucks director of player development Ryan Johnson, who doubles as general manager of the American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford, stressed Sunday that a McDonough plan was always in place for him to grow within the prospect pool.

He led the NCAA in scoring in his senior year with 60 points in 38 games, but it took until the 2020-21 NHL season to gain traction and put up 33 points in 59 games.
