A Canberra man who attacked three others with a meat cleaver has been found not guilty of murder because of mental impairment.Wajid Kakar attacked two of his housemates and a guest at their Page home in February 2021He will be detained for 30 years after being acquitted of the offences due to mental impairment
"In a terrifying assault, the accused repeatedly stabbed and chopped at the victims," Justice Baker said as she delivered her verdict.On the morning of February 20, 2021, Mr Kakar first attacked housemate Michael Williams, inflicting wounds to Mr Williams's arms, head, neck and back.Mr Williams died as a result.
In delivering the verdict, Justice Baker said she was satisfied Mr Kakar had been impaired by mental illness at the time.
