New envoy ‘happy’ to see Taiwan in spotlight, Canada's new China approach in Indo-Pacific strategyNew envoy ‘happy’ to see Taiwan in spotlight, Canada's new China approach in Indo-Pacific strategyTaiwan’s new representative says he is “happy” that Canada’s much-anticipated Indo-Pacific strategy highlighted Taiwan and charted a new path for Ottawa in its relationship with China. The Indo-Pacific strategy, which was released on Nov. 27, is billed as a generational shift in Canada’s engagement in the region, after years of rocky relations with China. Tseng was most recently Taiwan’s deputy foreign affairs minister, and has held head of mission posts to the European Union and Belgium, Palau, and Ireland. He was also director general of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ North American division and has had two postings in the United States. Tseng holds a PhD in government and foreign affairs from the University of Virginia.    Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly launched the Indo-Pacific strategy on Nov. 27.
