Canada's 100 Best Restaurants has announced its 2019 winners via nparts
Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants has announced its fifth annual ranking and a French fine dining spot in Toronto has taken top honours once again. Alo, headed by chef-owner Patrick Kriss, was named best in Canada for the third year running. Kriss, who has opened three restaurants in as many years – including Aloette and Alobar – was also named Canada’s Most Outstanding Chef. Montreal institutions Joe Beef and Toqué! round out the top three.
. Montreal is a close second with 25 followed by Vancouver with 14. Raymonds in St. John’s, Nfld. and Bar Kismet in Halifax, N.S. are among the eight establishments in the Maritimes, which had its strongest showing on the list to date. The ranking was determined by the votes of a panel of nearly 100 judges, made up of chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and others in the industry across the country.
Roughly a quarter of the restaurants are new to the list for 2019 and of those, 16 are freshly opened spots. “For the past five years we have promoted remarkable and incredibly talented chefs and restaurant teams from every corner of this country – and that’s evident with the number of new restaurants that have been included on the list,” said editor-in-chief Jacob Richler.
Other honourees include Normand Laprise of Toqué! , who garnered the Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Pastry Chef Celeste Mah of Raymonds, Most Innovative Chef Antonin Mousseau-Rivard of Montreal’s Le Mousso, and Sal Howell of Calgary’s River Café, which was named Most Eco-Friendly Restaurant.No. 4Langdon Hall, Cambridge, Ont.No. 8Montréal Plaza, Montreal
