Ottawa-Canada needs to make numerous domestic policy and infrastructure upgrades before it can be truly effective at helping to feed the world, says a report from the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute, the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance and the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.

Meanwhile the World Trade Organization’s multilateral trading system is dysfunctional and its trade rules now are less reliable as it struggles to address climate change, food security and trade under protectionist and geopolitical tensions. That means Canada must produce what the world wants while investing in its infrastructure and production capacity, the report. It also needs to invest in research, innovation and sustainability while sharing new knowledge and technologies through collaboration with developing countries.
