Caloy Yulo targets another podium finish when he competes in the 49th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships set Oct. 4 to 13 in Stuttgart, Germany.Gymnastics Association of the Philippines chief Cynthia Carrion said Yulo’s participation in the World Championships is crucial as the three best finishers in each apparatus and the top 12 gymnasts in the individual all-around will earn berths to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Yulo, 19, is no stranger to the World Championships, having won the bronze medal in the floor exercise at the 2018 edition in Doha, Qatar behind multiple world champions Artur Dalaloyan of Russia and Xiao Ruoteng of China. For more than a year, Yulo has been in intensive training in Japan under coach Munehiro Kugimiya. Carrion said he was also the non-Japanese gymnast to train along with national team members.
