All three children were airlifted to Perth Children's Hospital, where they remain in a stable condition. They discovered the crash site just a few kilometres from their home in Kondinin, where the family had been planning to spend Christmas Day. Shire president Kent Mouritz echoed his concerns, describing the roads in the area as "dangerous" and deteriorating quickly.
