A 210-kilogram blue marlin catch became a source of cheer to the fisherman and his family in the town of Sta. Ana in Cagayan province.
As seen on Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report on Friday, the fish was almost as big as a boat. Jhong Ignacio said this is the first time he’s caught something as big as this after three decades of fishing.
DA-BFAR Region II regional director Dr. Angel Encarnacion added that this is one of the biggest blue marlins ever caught in Cagayan. The largest weighs 212 kilograms and measures 299 centimeters. “So far, ‘yon yung pinaka mabigat pero yung pinaka mahaba, ito ay nakuha sa Claveria, Cagayan. It measures around 306 centimeters,” he said.
Ignacio said they immediately sold parts of the fish they caught for PHP 270 per kilo. They will use the earnings for their everyday expenses such as food and education. Meanwhile, blue marlins or makaira nigricans are considered one of the fastest and largest fishes in the world. They use their pointed mouths to catch small prey including fish.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA Integrated News
