Families in a new housing estate have been told to prepare to leave their homes after a change in conditions caused a bushfire to rapidly move towards their suburb in Brisbane's south.

 issued a prepare-to-leave warning for Flagstone, near Jimboomba, at 4.52pm today.

The QFES watch and act warning is for properties between the Undullah Nature Reserve and the Railway Line, including Flagstonian Drive.Residents began packing up their cars and watering down their homes in preparation. The slow-moving fire is burning in the vicinity of Trailblazer Drive, Saunders Drive and Highgate Drive, Flagstone."The fire has been moving in this forested area for a few days now," Queensland Fire and Rescue Services' Wayne Teece said."It is about one kilometre from the back of the Flagstone estate."Residents have been warned it could get worse quickly.

Crews had been trying to build a fire break between the blaze and the suburb but it has been proving hard to stop.Ground crews and aerial water bombers are working to extinguish the bushfire.Other residents said they were leaving their homes and "not risking it".A smoke alert has been issued for the Scenic Rim, Ipswitch and Brisbane as the smoke moves into metropolitan areas.
