VICE Gov. Alex Castro of Bulacan has called for an increased vigilance and security measures against fake news to ensure safety and peace in the province.In his privilege speech during Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session on Feb. 6, Castro cited the need to strengthen the law enforcement against those spreading false information that can cause fear and chaos.
According to Castro, the issue is further complicated by lack of verification from official government agencies, highlighting the dangers of spreading misinformation as experts point out that fake news can have serious consequences, cause fear, anger, and can lead to damaging the reputation of individuals, communities and even the entire province of Bulacan.'This is not just a simple issue of being irresponsible on social media,' said Castro.
