THE government’s budget deficit widened in June, the Bureau of the Treasury reported on Thursday, pushing the year-to-date shortfall higher than that programmed for the first half of 2025.
The P241.6-billion deficit — from revenues of P306.9 billion and expenditures of P548.5 billion — rose from May’s P145.2 billion and the year-ago P209.1 billion.The budget balance remained in deficit at P765.5 billion year to date, higher than the P613.9 billion January-June last year. It was also higher than the P760.7 billion programmed for the period.June revenues rose 3.5 percent from the year-earlier P296.
Both the BIR and the BOC fell short of their programmed revenue collections for the period of P1.58 trillion and P461.4 billion, respectively.The tax take from other offices, meanwhile, rose to P2.6 billion in June and P19.6 billion year to date, rising from P2.2 billion and P17.8 billion a year earlier.As for nontax revenues, Treasury collections surged to P16.1 billion in June from P7.4 billion. This brought the six-month tally to P145.3 billion, down from year-ago P163.9 billion.
