There's no mention yet of a ring return for Jerwin Ancajas or John Riel Casimero, but this is good news for the two Filipino fighters.
Top Rank Inc. chief Bob Arum said his promotion will resume with their fight cards starting in June after being shutdown by the COVID-19 pandemic since February."They'll all be top fighters, really top fights," Arum said. "Will there be a Fury- Wilder? No. But they'll be some of our top fighters . . . In other words, the fights will be similar as the fights we've been putting on ESPN and ESPN+," Arum said in an article posted on ESPN.com.
Arum clarified that the cards won't feature a live audience, as restrictions on mass gatherings are still in place."I don't anticipate -- now, I don't know -- being able to do fights with any kind of crowd 'til the fourth quarter [of 2020]." Among boxers whose fights linked to Top Rank were postponed are Filipino champions Ancajas and Casimero.
Ancajas was supposed to defend his IBF junior bantamweight title against Jonathan Rodriguez last April 12, while Casimero was scheduled to meet Japanese bantanweight superstar Naoya Inoue in a triple title bout on April 25.For more sports coverage, visit the ABS-CBN Sports website.
