Team Bottcher is putting in practice time all over the province.

“It’s been awesome getting five guys together, including coach Paul Webster, that want to work super hard and put in the effort it takes to be not only one of the best in Canada but the best in the world,” said skip Bottcher of his first-year unit — a star-studded one made up of himself and third Kennedy living in Edmonton and lead Hebert and second Gallant residing in the Calgary area.

With a lineup that boasts 19 BP Cup victories and 10 additional provincial titles from other provinces, Bottcher is the favourite to win the Boston Pizza Cup and advance onwards to represent the province at next month’s Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ont. “I focus a lot less on who we’re playing and what it means if you win. Just trying to go out there and play as good as you can.”Of course, Bottcher’s arch-rival, Kevin Koe, will be in the River Cree house on the edge of Edmonton’s city limits. And that fellow Glencoe skip boasts Bottcher’s former front end in fellow Edmontonians Brad Thiessen and Karrick Martin.

“We’re not Team Jacobs or Team Koe or Team Gushue or the old Team Bottcher,” Hebert said. “We’ve had to find our own way with us four. And we’ve started to define that. The other rinks vying for BP glory at the 12-team triple-knockout event are Aaron Sluchinski , Warren Cross , Ryan Jacques , Parker Konschuh , Warren Koza , Karsten Sturmay , Daylan Vavrek and Scott Webb .

Most recently, Bottcher beat everyone — going 6-0 — at the Canadian Open in Camrose in mid-January. Before that major victory, they won at the ATB Okotoks Classic in September. And sandwiched in between were third-place finishes at the PointsBet Canada Invitational in New Brunswick, the Prism Flow Red Deer Curling Classic, and the WFG Masters in Oakville, Ont.
