THE country's balance of payments position remained in deficit in April, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas reported on Monday, widening to $2.56 billion from the $1.97 billion and $639 million seen a month and a year earlier.
The cumulative count was still in deficit at $5.5 billion, higher than the $401 million recorded in January to April 2024. 'Based on preliminary data, this year-to-date BOP deficit reflected mainly the widening trade in goods deficit,' the central bank said. 'This decline was partly muted, however, by the continued net inflows from personal remittances from overseas Filipinos and foreign borrowings by the NG,' it added.
